Where the Sky Begins at Your Bed

The Alentejo has one of the cleanest skies on the Iberian Peninsula. Far from the light pollution of the cities, the nights in Veiros reveal a spectacle that few have the privilege of witnessing: the Milky Way with the naked eye, thousands of stars and the absolute silence of the plains.

In the geodesic domes of Glamping Skies, the total transparency of the walls lets you fall asleep and wake up beneath this mantle of light. You never need to leave your bed to feel the cosmos around you.

We are around an hour and fifteen minutes from the Official Dark Sky® Alqueva Observatory in Cumeada, at the heart of the world's first region certified as a Starlight tourism destination. Glamping Skies is listed among the accommodations recommended by Dark Sky Alqueva, in one of the most celebrated dark-sky areas in Europe.

Dark Skies

A zone of very low light pollution, ideal for astronomical observation.

360° View

The transparent domes offer an immersive view of the sky in every direction.

Astrotourism

Sleep under the Milky Way and wake up to the Alentejo dawn.

Season by Season

The Sky Through the Year

The night sky over Veiros changes with the seasons. Whenever you visit, there is something to look up for.

Summer

The Milky Way arches across the sky at its brightest, its glowing core clearly visible on moonless nights. Mid-August brings the Perseids, one of the most rewarding meteor showers of the year.

Autumn

The air grows steadier and clearer. On a dark night you can trace the Andromeda Galaxy with the naked eye, the most distant object visible without a telescope.

Winter

The brightest and most familiar sky of all. Orion dominates the night, surrounded by the most luminous stars of the year, while the cold, dry air makes everything sharper.

Spring

Milder nights invite long, unhurried observation, with the Milky Way returning to the pre-dawn sky as the season turns towards summer.

Good to Know

Stargazing in Veiros

You need no equipment to begin. With the naked eye you will already see the Milky Way and thousands of stars; simply let your eyes adjust to the darkness for a few minutes. Because the walls of the domes are transparent, you can watch the sky lying in bed, without leaving the comfort of your room.

Every season offers good nights for observation, though summer and winter are especially memorable. Clear, moonless nights are always best, so it is worth checking the moon phase above when planning your stay.

For those who wish to go further with a telescope and a guided session, the Official Dark Sky® Alqueva Observatory in Cumeada is around an hour and fifteen minutes away by car.
